FEVERISH / HOMEGROWN
Club Loco, Bristol

My first experience of clubbing Bristol - style, and proof that the trance and techno scene has a niche in most cities, though this seemed to be more of a ‘tekno’ than a ‘fluro’ crowd. The rabbit warren layout of the club intensified the ‘banging’ qualities of the sound, loud enough, but without blasting your ears. The numerous UV backdrops gave a foliage themed feel to the place - a few more FX lights wouldn’t have gone amiss though.

The presence of Djs ‘Oberon and Choci’ increased the interest factor for myself, and I spent most of the evening in the techno room - there was also an underground / hard house room, but this started off a bit lightly for my tastes. Homegrown residents Jon Little and Tim Harley kicked off the night with some pleasant trancy stuff before local guest ‘Colinizer’ launched into some bonkers gabba interspersed with some more bouncy tunes. From then on I found the music a bit hard and minimal, but the Bristol crowd seemed very ‘up for it’. The compact dance floor remained packed until Oberon tranced and funked it up in a more anthemic style around 3am, by which time the other room had picked up with D.I.Y Djs Jack and Pezz.

We didn’t stay long enough to catch Choci’s set, but had a good taste of the Bristol party scene. It would have been nice to have some chill-out music playing in part of the club, though there were other rooms, and a kind of cafe to sit in, which became littered with people as the night progressed. Overall a friendly vibe and trouble - free evening from Homegrown.
